Does God believe in irony and humor?  She made me--independent and sometimes selfish--the matriarch of a large family, and that's pretty funny..
My immediate family consists of a husband George, four children and their spouses, and nine grandchildren, all under the age of ten. I am kid rich.  And, I was raised by a mother, now deceased, whose favorite saying was "Children and animals are miserable little creatures."  Is my mother right?  I'm going to be honest, and admit that children and animals are occasionally miserable little creatures.
My Family
In case you haven't guessed, matrimony and motherhood did not come naturally or easily to me.  I felt somewhat vindicated when I interviewed Dr. Linda Merry for Women In Veterinary Medicine: Profiles of Success, and she, the mother of an only child, said, "I am about as naturally maternal as a rattlesnake."  In spite of those sentiments, Linda and I have taken the roles that God assigned us, and we've run with the ball, so to speak.
Another thing you've probably surmised, if you've prrused this web site at all, is that I write about the things that I am trying to work out in my own life.  Most of the essays I wrote about being a single mother and about remarrying and blending families remain, alas, unpublished.  However, because I am the editor of this web site, I can select and publish them here.  The wonderful thing about the web is that you can elect to skip any or all of my offerings on this or any other subject.
